I. Equipment Overview

The Automatic Fiber Feeding Machine is a dedicated automated conveying and feeding equipment designed specifically for ultra-short fibers. It serves as a critical component in the fiber preparation stage of nonwoven and hygiene product manufacturing lines. This machine can automatically process compacted short fibers – which are densely packed in bales or bags – by opening and loosening them, and then evenly and continuously conveying the opened fibers into the downstream metering (dosing) device. This provides a stable and reliable fiber supply for subsequent processes such as web forming and fiber layering.

In the nonwoven and hygiene product industries, the quality of fiber opening and conveying has a significant impact on final product quality and material efficiency. Traditional manual tearing and feeding methods are labour-intensive, require substantial manpower, and cannot guarantee material cleanliness or feeding uniformity. The application of the automatic fiber feeding machine effectively solves these problems, achieving automated, continuous, and uniform fiber feeding.

II. Application Range

This machine is suitable for ultra-short fibers with lengths ranging from 3mm to 12mm, covering a wide variety of fiber types:

  • Chemical fibers: Polyester staple fiber, polypropylene fiber, viscose fiber, etc.

  • Wood pulp fibers: Wood pulp fibers commonly used in absorbent cores of hygiene products.

  • Natural fibers: Cotton fiber, bamboo fiber, etc.

  • Leather fibers: Recycled leather fibers and other specialty fiber materials.

III. Working Principle

The working process of the automatic fiber feeding machine can be divided into the following core stages:

  1. Feeding / Loading: Compacted fiber bales or bags are loaded into the machine hopper, and the automatic feeding program is initiated.

  2. Opening / Loosening: The machine uses an opening mechanism (such as opening rollers, beaters, etc.) to tear and loosen the compressed, entangled fiber masses. Large agglomerated fiber lumps are broken down into smaller pieces or tufts, achieving a fluffy state. For 3–12mm ultra-short fibers, this process is particularly critical – it must achieve thorough opening while avoiding excessive fibre damage.

  3. Uniform Conveying: The loosened, fluffy fibers are conveyed through a transport system to the downstream metering device at a continuous and uniform flow rate. The equipment is typically equipped with negative pressure or pneumatic auxiliary conveying devices to ensure fibre does not accumulate or cause blockages during transportation.

  4. Interlocked Dosing: The machine is interlocked and controlled with the downstream fiber metering device. Variable frequency drive or servo control enables precise and adjustable dosing.

The entire process achieves integrated automation – from feeding to opening to conveying to dosing – without requiring manual intervention.

IV. Machine Structure

The automatic fiber feeding machine typically consists of the following core components:

Component Function Description
Feeding System Open the feed cover, load fibers into the hopper, and initiate timing measurement
Opening / Loosening System Loosens the compacted fibers in the hopper into a fluffy state
Conveying System Evenly transports the fluffy fibers to the discharge outlet
Dosing / Feeding System Interlocked with the metering device to achieve precise fiber dosing
Control System PLC or intelligent control unit, enabling variable frequency / servo drive and interlocked control

V. Technical Parameters

Based on a typical model, the main technical parameters are as follows:

Parameter Specification
Applicable Materials 2–13mm ultra-short fibers (chemical, wood pulp, natural, leather fibers, etc.)
Machine Weight Approx. 1500-4000 kg
Installed Power Approx. 36.5 -115 KW ( depend different specification)
Operating Voltage Customisable according to customer requirements
Drive Mode Variable frequency drive or servo drive
Control Mode Interlocked control with downstream fiber metering device

VI. Features & Advantages

  1. High Automation: Fully automatic operation from feeding to conveying, significantly reducing manual intervention.

  2. Superior Opening Performance: Specifically designed for 3–12mm ultra-short fibres, achieving thorough opening of compacted fibers while effectively avoiding fiber damage.

  3. Uniform & Continuous Feeding: Precise variable frequency or servo control ensures continuous uniform opening and conveying, resulting in more consistent fiber layering in downstream equipment.

  4. Labour Savings: Automated feeding replaces traditional manual tearing and feeding methods, substantially reducing manpower requirements and labour intensity.

  5. Precise Interlocked Control: Interlocked with the fiber metering device via variable frequency or servo dosing, ensuring accurate feeding precision.

  6. Wide Applicability: Suitable for a broad range of ultra-short fibers including chemical fibers, wood pulp fibers, natural fibers, and leather fibers.

VII. Typical Applications

The automatic fiber feeding machine is widely used in the fiber preparation stage of the following production lines:

  • Hygiene Product Lines: Sanitary napkin machines, panty liner machines, underpad machines, and other applications requiring constant wood pulp or fiber supply.

  • Airlaid Lines: Fiber feeding systems for airlaid (dry-laid) paper production lines.

  • Nonwoven Production Lines: Fiber opening and feeding during the production of through-air bonded nonwoven, spunlaced nonwoven, and other nonwoven processes.

VIII. Installation & Operating Precautions

  1. Air Supply: The machine requires compressed air at 0.6–0.8 MPa; the user must prepare the air source accordingly.

  2. Power Supply: Select the appropriate operating voltage according to the machine model; a voltage stabiliser is recommended.

  3. Raw Material Requirements: Ensure the fiber length is within 3–12mm; exceeding this range may affect opening performance and conveying uniformity.

  4. Regular Maintenance: Regularly clean fiber residue from opening rollers, conveying channels, and other areas; check the lubrication status of transmission components.

  5. Safe Operation: Do not place hands into the hopper or opening area during operation; ensure all safety guards are intact and functional.
