Frontal Tape (Loop Tape) is a core raw material for the closure system of disposable hygiene products such as baby diapers and adult incontinence pants. It serves as the receiving (loop) side of the closure system and works with the hook side of the side tapes / fastening tapes through mechanical interlocking to enable repeated fastening and waist tension adjustment. Its performance directly affects wearing security, caregiving convenience, and skin-contact comfort. Based on surface material and finishing, frontal tapes are mainly classified into three types: PP side, Mesh side, and Brushed side.

1. PP Side (BOPP Frontal Tape)

 

Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film is used as the substrate, with release silicone oil coated on the surface to work with the pressure-sensitive adhesive of the side tape for repeated fastening. The BOPP film can be transparent, glossy, or matte (matte film), and the printed design is placed directly on the film surface.

 

Key features:

• Wide controllable peel strength range, adjustable by silicone oil coating amount.

• Light peel strength is commonly used for baby series, while heavy peel strength is used for adult series to match different waist tension and activity levels.

• Matte film has a slightly uneven surface; silicone oil coating needs to be matched with the side tape adhesive. Matte frontal tape is mostly used in adult products with medium-to-heavy peel strength.

• Relatively low cost and high pattern clarity, suitable for economical products and traditional adhesive fastening structures.

 

Typical applications: Cost-sensitive products, products requiring high-clarity printed patterns, and traditional structures fixed by adhesive.

 

 

 

 

2. Mesh Side (Knitted / Mesh Frontal Tape)

 

Mesh fabric is laminated with low-grammage BOPP/PET film, with the printed design on the film. The mesh side is a “hook-and-loop” structure: the hook on the free end engages the loops in the mesh fabric to achieve fastening.

 

Key features:

• Low mesh grammage does not obscure the printed design on the backing film, providing excellent pattern visibility.

• When used with molded hooks, the engagement points are evenly distributed, and strength retention after repeated opening and closing is good.

• High technological maturity; compatible with molded hooks from most suppliers, allowing flexible supplier switching.

• Medium softness, balancing pattern clarity and engagement stability.

 

Typical applications: Mid-to-high-end baby diapers, products requiring clear cartoon printing, and applications with high requirements for repeated fastening reliability.

 

 

 

 

 

3. Brushed Side (Brushed / Suede Frontal Tape)

Warp-knitted brushed fabric (or flannelette) is laminated with BOPP/PE film. The key process is

brushing/napping treatment—through mechanical methods such as brushing, raising, or needle punching, fiber ends on the fabric surface are pulled out to form a dense pile layer, providing sufficient engagement points for the hooks and thus sufficient peel strength.

 

Key features:

• After brushing, the surface is fluffy and delicate, offering the best softness and hand feel and minimizing friction irritation upon skin contact.

• Peel strength is generated by the entanglement and friction between the pile and hooks, giving a “pile-bonding” rather than “hook-hanging” feel.

• The brushed fabric has relatively higher grammage and partially covers the printed design on the backing film; printing designs are therefore better suited to soft tones and large color blocks.

• Suitable for high-end products and products for skin-sensitive users.

 

Typical applications: High-end baby diapers emphasizing skin friendliness; adult incontinence pants for long-term bedridden users or users with fragile skin.
